Sea fishing on Oleron Island

Fishing enthusiast, are you looking for a place to fish at sea on Oleron Island? Or you wish to discover fishing during your vacations camping at île d'Oléron ? We give you here many tips and tricks to follow to practice sea fishing on the Ile d'Oléron, depending on the type of fishing.

Surfcasting fishing

If you want to fish while having a good time with family or friends on the beach, you will have to turn to surfcasting fishing. The fishing in surfcasting, it is the fishing in sea but from the beach, the feet in the water, following the movements of the tides. It is thus necessary an adapted material.

For surfcasting fishing, a place is well known by the locals because it is considered as the best surfcasting fishing spot on the Ile d'Oléron : the Saumonards beach in Boyardville, a small village depending on Saint-Georges-d'Oléron, on the east coast of the island. You will be able to fish there a great variety of fishes : sea breams, mullets, bass, red mullets, soil and many other species of fishes. The beaches of La Brée-les-Bains on the northeast coast and Gatseau in the south of the island are also good surfcasting fishing spots.

Fishing by the sea

At the seaside we practice lure fishing. We generally catch sea bass with lures such as bubble or bonnette. You will find the best fishing spots on the seaside towards Chassiron point and along the wild coast, near the fish locks.

Fishing by boat

The sea trips are numerous on Oleron Island and you will easily find a boat that will take you fishing, early in the morning.

The boat fishing is particularly productive using bait. Depending on the fish you want to catch, you will have to choose the right bait, time and place. In the summer, the easiest fish to catch on Oleron Island is gray sea bream, using chipirons or cockles. Sea bream is caught with tube worms.

The pertuis d'Antioch is the best place to fish in the sea at the île d'Oléron. The area between Antioch and the beacon of Les Palles is excellent.

For the skinny fishing, the wrecks, like the Saint-Yves wreck, are good places.

For the lure fishing, the area around Antioch is again the best. However, it is a dangerous area that needs to be well equipped. You can also fish near the Chassiron lighthouse, in front of the locks.

Fishing on foot

Fishing on foot is a very popular activity on the island of Oleron, by locals and tourists alike. It is a true tradition ! It consists in collecting shells at low tide : mussels, oysters, crabs, scallops, clams, sea urchins, shrimps...

You can fish on foot almost everywhere around the island but the best spots to fish on foot on Oleron Island are probably around Saint-Pierre d'Oléron and La Cotinière. Fishing on foot is a relaxing activity to practice with your family during your camping vacations on Ile d'Oléron.
